This Privacy Policy explains how Toolvind (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data when you visit toolvind.com, create an account, list a product, upvote, comment, subscribe to our newsletter or get in touch. It also explains your rights and how to use them.
The short version
- We collect what you give us, such as your name, email address and the products you list, plus the technical details any website needs to run securely.
- We use it to run Toolvind: your account, product listings, upvotes, discussions and the emails that go with them.
- We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.
- You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, at any time.
Who we are
Toolvind is a community directory where makers list software, AI tools and apps, and people discover, upvote and discuss them. We’re responsible for your personal data (the “controller”, in data protection terms).
You can reach us about anything in this policy:
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your name, email address and password when you sign up, and a profile photo if you add one. We store passwords as one-way hashes, never as plain text. We also record when you accepted our Terms of Use and when you confirmed your email address.
- Products you list. Everything you enter when you submit a product: its name, tagline, description, website and app store links, logo, screenshots, video and demo links, pricing, offers and promo codes, social profile links, launch comment and categories. If you add teammates as makers, we store the names and email addresses you give us for them, so please make sure they’re happy for you to share them.
- Upvotes and discussions. The products you upvote, the comments and replies you post, and any reports you send us about a comment.
- Newsletter sign-ups. Your email address and where on the site you subscribed.
- Advertising inquiries. Your name, work email address, company, website and the campaign details you send through our advertising form.
- Messages. Anything you send us by email, such as support questions or privacy requests.
Please don’t include sensitive information, such as health details, political views or government ID numbers, in listings, comments or messages. We don’t need it.
Information collected automatically
- Technical details. Like most websites, our servers receive your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request and the time of each request. While you’re signed in, we store your IP address and browser details with your session to help keep your account secure.
- Cookies. We use a small number of cookies that are strictly necessary for signing in, security and remembering your cookie choices. Our Cookie Policy lists each one.
Information from other people
- Teammates. Another member may add you as a maker on a product they list, which gives us your name and email address.
- Public sources. Our team adds some listings from public information, such as a product’s own website and app store pages. This describes products and companies, but it can include the public names of the people behind them.
How we use it

We don’t make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects, and we don’t build advertising profiles.
What other people can see
- Product listings. Once our team approves a listing, its details are public and can appear in search engines. Makers’ email addresses are never shown.
- Comments. Your comments and replies are public, together with your name and profile photo.
- Upvotes. We show how many upvotes a product has, not who gave them.
- Your email address is never shown to other members or visitors.
Anything you make public can be seen, copied and shared by others, so please think before you post.
Emails we send
We send the service emails you need to use Toolvind, such as confirming your email address, resetting your password, sign-in codes, decisions about products you listed and replies to your comments. You can’t opt out of these while you have an account, but you can close your account at any time.
We only send our newsletter to people who signed up for it. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe, or you can simply ask us.
Our email delivery provider records whether each email was delivered, and may record whether it was opened or a link in it was clicked. We use this only to keep our emails reaching inboxes.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t share it with advertisers. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers that help us run Toolvind. They may only use your data to do that work for us:
- Hostinger, for website hosting and databases
- Brevo, for email delivery
- Google Fonts, jsDelivr and cdnjs (run by Cloudflare), which deliver the fonts and code libraries our pages use and so receive your IP address when a page loads
- The public, for the listings and comments you choose to publish.
- Authorities and others, when required. If the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our members, the public or Toolvind.
- A new owner, if Toolvind is ever merged, acquired or sold. We’ll tell you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
International transfers
Our service providers may process your data in countries other than the one you live in, which can have different data protection laws. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your account stays until you close it. When you do, we delete your account details, profile photo and upvotes within 30 days. Products you listed and comments you posted stay on the site without your name, unless you ask us to remove them.
- Comments you delete disappear from the site straight away. We keep a copy only for as long as we need it to handle reports and prevent abuse.
- Sign-in sessions end after a period of inactivity. “Keep me signed in” lasts until you sign out or until the time shown in our Cookie Policy runs out.
- Sign-in codes and password reset links expire within an hour of being sent.
- Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
- Advertising inquiries and messages are kept while we’re in touch with you, and afterwards only for as long as we need them for our records and legal obligations.
- Server logs are kept for a short time for security and troubleshooting.
- Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis, so deleted data disappears from them over time.
How we protect it
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords as one-way hashes, give each team member only the access their role needs, and limit how often anyone can try to sign in or repeat other sensitive actions. Changing your sign-in email requires a code sent to the new address.
No website can be completely secure, so we can’t promise your data will never be exposed.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy in a portable format
- Correct data that’s wrong. You can update your name, photo, email address and password yourself in Account settings
- Delete your account and personal data
- Object to how we use your data, or ask us to restrict it
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it, such as for the newsletter
- Complain to your local data protection authority
We may ask you to confirm your identity first. We’ll reply within 30 days, or sooner where the law requires, and we won’t treat you differently for using your rights.
California and other US states. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don’t use sensitive personal information to infer things about you. You can ask to know, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can use an authorized agent to make a request.
India. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can also ask us to correct or erase your data, raise a grievance with us, and nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to.
Children
Toolvind isn’t meant for children. You must be at least 18 to create an account, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Other websites
Toolvind links to products and websites run by other people. When you visit them, their own privacy policies apply, not this one.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page when our practices change and show the new date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll also tell you by email or with a notice on the site before it takes effect.
